    Zumo XT tether

Just after buying my Garmin Zumo XT and consequently fitting it, i was rather put off by the less than reassuring spring loaded latch on the docking panel.
Thats all thats between me and another £360 if it decides to give way.
I am sure that it has been tested well (when it is 100% fully attached)
That is the problem, there is something about the way it fits on that leaves me thinking "is that properly attached or not? Shall i press a bit harder".. There is no click or other visibly reassuring indication that it is fully engaged. A quick look about on line shows plenty of adventure AND sports bike riders stating that they have either lost their XT or it came off at speed. Also it is rather easy to, with gloves on, accidentally push the latch in slightly when turning the ignition key.
So i have been looking for a backup to give me peace of mind.
    This may be it.
The wire tethers are easily available online very cheaply and have a plastic sleeve over the wire. I got the longer 18cm ones.
On the rear of the Satnav i have used a self adhesive D ring from Amazon.

As this is an experiment i have no idea how the sticky D ring will last, or put up with wet weather.
However i do have another type though, for back up.
Funny, i found out today that the Garmin for Bicycle use has a tether you wrap round the handlebars. Why not the Motorbike one then??  :087: It's not as if it was cheap!!  :827:

I've had the Zumo XT for about 6 months now and not had a single problem with it coming detached or feeling like it hasn't clicked in. I have added a locking mount so when I stop for a coffee and bacons then I can leave the Zumo on the bike.

I popped into tesco a while ago for a quick wee.
In that 2 minutes two scumbags followed me in and apparently according to witnesses that was trying to stop them, was using both hands to rip my cheap Chinese gopro camera from my bike which was lock wired on. I would never leave an expensive satnav on the bike.

    That's bad.  :023:

I've a Tomtom that's locked on. It just gives me a bit of reasurance at petrol stops/lights etc. But if I'm going to be away from the bike and can't see it then I take it with me. It's a bl##dy sad world that we live in!
