Brake issue

Hi,

I’ve just changed the tyres on my 2020 Ninja. Everything seems to have gone okay except the front brake is a bit jerky at very slow speed. Higher speeds are seem fine, its just in stop-start traffic, as though the callipers are suddenly grabbing.

The wheel spins freely with just a slight dragging of the pads, though they do seem to catch very slightly more at one point. The discs don’t appear to be warped and I can’t feel any issues at higher speeds.

One thing I didn’t do when reinstalling the wheel was to clean the disc, could that be the issue?

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, that's definitely not normal!

Assuming it's just the front wheel (?) I'd take the wheel out again and start from scratch.

Check that the pads are properly fixed and push the pistons back in as far as you can - remove the brake fluid cap and check the level whilst doing so.
Pullt out the axle, clean and lightly grease.
Are the wheel spacers corectly fitted?

Re-install everything and use the specified torques. Pump the brakes. I do not think that the pads shouls drag, the piston should be pulled back a fraction when you release the brake.

Yeah I’ll strip the front down again, clean the discs and callipers etc. and see how she goes.

Just seems strange this has started now as it was fine before the tyre change. I’m guessing that as there’s no grabbing at higher speeds it might be the usual disc contamination these bikes seem to suffer.

All a little annoying as I’m off on a shortish trip next weekend with lads, so obviously I need the bike to be okay.

Mine did this and it was warped discs. Replaced under warranty

I need to book the bike in for a service soon so will get the to have a look.

In the meantime I’ve swapped the pads and it seems better….

Yeah, thanks for that.

I did follow what he says in the video when putting it all back together. If I feel there’s still an issue next time I ride I’ll get the dealer to check it out when it’s next in.

  As per Plainmad sez . . . . .methinks warped discs, too.

  I had warped discs on my Z1000SX and mirrored the symptoms you're suffering. A slight grabbing/pulsing at slow speeds and just as you come to a halt.
