Seems like they're trying to pull a fast one with you. £280 seems a fair deal but anything more should be double checked.

Where are you based? Bacon's Kawasaki in London are incredibly reasonable as are Colchester.

Hope you can get some better quotes!

I just called for a price for the first annual service on mine this morning, coincidentally. Blade in Abingdon, £287
Two hours of changing parts that don't need changing. I'm tempted to use a local guy and just get an oil and filter change.

Was that a special deal?
If not, where was it done?

You've not stated your mileage which would help. However:

You do NOT need the spark plugs changed at 7500miles.
The air cleaner is every 11000 miles/18months but could be inspected to see if it needs changing.
Brake fluid is every two years/15,000 miles - so will need doing but is not expensive.
Other than the above and oil and filter change the rest is just inspection.

£480 is a piss take. The most that I have paid was £240 a few years back.

According to the official service schedule:

The 2 year 7500 service includes: replacement of oil and filter, plugs, and brake fluid. A throttle body sync.  Also lubrication of the steering stem, and a while load of inspection items all of which are trivial.

We would argue that plugs are unnecessary but any dealer with his salt should be completing the service to the letter, unless he discusses with you whether he advises that certain items are unnecessary cost (such as plugs). If memory serves me correctly it's a 3 or 4 hour service at most.

Being generous:
I have seen dealers quoting as much as £16 per plug (Halfords charge £10).
Oil and filter is what? £60 at dealer prices
Brake fluid probably as much as £15
That's roughly £140
4 hours at £85 per hour £340
Total £480

Any competent mechanic could do it for half that.  Even less if changing the plugs isn't included.

It's worth shopping around.  £480 is a top price.  It's not worth paying that.
