Engine oil - Genuine or Counterfeit
on: 15 Sep 20, 04:49:36
Hello, hope you're all well,

I bought 4L of 10W - 40 4T Castrol Power 1 Racing Oil for my upcoming oil change. It cost me €28.95 from a Spanish ebay dealer. I have not yet opened it. The reason I have doubts about its authenticity is the lack of an imprinted serial number on the container and a hologram on the container with a number.

Have any of you folks come across fake Castrol?

You had me at Spanish ebay dealer  :745:

When it comes to oil /filter always use a reputable dealer. Sportsbikeshop do great deals every so often.

Need to remind myself this is an international forum!

In that case... Why not get in touch with buyer, and if unhappy, I have had plenty of good experiences with ebay's buyer protection scheme. They'll probably want some proof by ways of pics - lack of serial and hologram should be a sufficient amount of evidence.

Bottom line is I wouldn't risk it... Could be a case of dealer buying in bulk (those 20l drums) and is distributing it in dodgy packaging at 2-4x cost.

You can check Castrol authentication here:

https://connect.castrol.com/check/

If no hologram sticker then that speaks for itself.

Not sure I'd buy oil off ebay unless the seller had a good reputation or they were an ebay shop from a known retailer.

Plenty of examples of fake oil on Google images if you do a search  :028:
