The Tracer is and feels very light and the engine does scream along very nicely. My biggest problem was keeping the Tracer planted as it was very flighty when cracking on. It would seem the suspension was not given much from the overall budget when this bike was designed.
As a B road scratching bike I loved it. The hero blobs are massive and easily ground down way before reaching the edge of the tyre.
As a 2 up tourer it was and still is very good. Although a quick downshift to 2nd for an overtake would always hoist the front wheel up. You also have to be careful on bumpy twisty roads as the centre stand makes contact with the road quite easily.
The move to the Z1000SX came about after an open day at our local Kawasaki dealer. I took out the 2020 model albeit following a lead out rider at very sensible speeds. The first thing I noticed was how plush and refined it was compared to the Tracer. Where the Tracer sounded harsh and would shake its head and wobble around the kwack just gets on with it. There is definitely a heavier feel when wheeling it about but once on the way that feeling soon disappears. As for the extra power and torque well that just adds to the grin factor.
The seating position isn’t too far away from the Tracer. The bars are slightly lower and the foot pegs are higher but it feels ok to me.
All in all it’s been a great move so far!
