Z1000sx 2017 tool kit
on: 04 Aug 20, 02:12:48
Hi,

My 2017 bike came without a tool kit.

Question.
1. What should a 2017 kit look like and contain?
2. Is it worth having?
3. Am I better off making my own?

Cheers

Better off making your own, oem is basic and useless, I binned mine as soon as I got back from the dealer

I have a small ratchet with 6,8,10,12&14mm sockets, extender bar for ratchet and sockets screwdriver with attachable bits Phillips head, pz head and flat head bits. Hex socket bits (can't recall sizes but for rear swing arm and chain tensioner) also a magnet on an extendable telescopic pole (come on you know tour going to drop a screw or a nut in the most in accesable place at some point)

It's crap.  It's worth making your own.  I only consider the tool kit for emergencies rather than general maintenence, in which case you just need things to deal with stuff that you might need when your are away from home.  I would start with Gaffa tape, a few big cable ties, a spare clutch lever, and an Allen key to get the seat off.  Also Allen keys to:  1. remove the side faring, 2. lift the tank, and 3. to fit the clamp bolts to adjust the chain.  Probably a 10 and 12mm ring spanner also.

Plus a tyre puncture repair kit.

Thanks all for the swift replies.

Consensus is make my own. I'm no mechanic so if I do need any roadside repairs it will be a tech savvy riding mate saying "pass me a..." rather than me doing anything. Best case scenario is it will never be needed.  :028:

I'll put a kit together.

Only three items needed in an emergency tool kit :

1.  If it moves when it shouldn't -  GAFFA TAPE it

2.  If it doesn't move when it should - WD40 it

3.  If the above don't apply - AA or RAC membership

Works everytime !

Tis funny you should say the 1,2 and 3 above but they do apply to me.

Always worth making sure you have a set of spare fuses and bulbs (for those of us with replaceable bulbs, particularly headlight bulbs)

The Kawasaki tool kit is much more comprehensive and useful than the miserable apology for a kit  provided on more expensive BMW bikes!
