New member and new (2019) Z1000SX
on: 13 Feb 20, 07:23:16
Just decided to trade in my BMW F800Gt for a Z1000sx.  I bought the F800 last year having owned and been very happy with a BMW 1200rt. However I was starting to find the 1200rt a little heavy as I got older. The F800 was much lighter, very nimble, but bland and boring. I always felt it was too small for me at 6ft 1inch.
In a mad moment I had a test ride on a Z1000sx    Wow! I just knew I had to have one as my 'last bike.' (I'm 76).  I collect it on 1 March and will ensure it is 'run in' for my annual European tour- this time to the Black Forest and Austrian Alps.   I look forward to learning all about the Z1000sx from Forum Members.

Enjoy your Z1000SX we all know you will
Just make sure that you get on with the seat before you head off on your European tour, some find em a pain in the axxe

Glad to hear that at 76 years of age you have still got great taste in motorcycles and touring the world.

Thank you all for the welcome and for the advice about the seat. I did realise on the test ride that perhaps the seat was not the most comfortable. I have been looking at a Sargent seat as a  possibility.   I also found the standard screen fairly ineffective, so will probably change that. On the basis of what I have read on this forum and elsewhere, I think the Puig touring screen might be the best option. I would welcome any further thoughts or advice.

I bought a 2019 last July. At first, I found the seat extremely uncomfortable - couldn't bear to be on it longer than one hour. But I persevered and over time it got better. After a month or two, it was completely fine, as it is now 8 months later.
So worth giving the seat some miles and time to see if it improves. Might save you a few quid if it does.....

Agreed I did a couple of thousand miles around Europe last summer on 2018 SX with standard seat with no discomfort in the posterior department

Welcome to the forum and roll-on the 1st of March.

I've looked at swapping my Z1000SX for a F800GT but have always changed my mind "in time" as I just know that I would get disappointed with the BMW's performance over time.

Agree with others re. giving the seat some time and some miles before shelling out for a replacement. I do Germany every year on a std seat and my bum gets numb as the the tank gets empty (160-180 miles)
