Servicing advice please
« on: October 09, 2019, 11:58:28 AM »
Here's my situation - 2018 model with 6500 miles, next service due early December (12 months) or 7500 miles, which occurs first.  With this weather it's likely to be due in December before the mileage as I'm a fair weather rider only these days.   The bike will be 2 years old in April and therefore out of warranty.  As I don't ride the bike in the winter, I don't see the point in getting it serviced before April when I start riding again properly. Also, my warranty issues won't occur as the bike is not being used.  I always give the bike a quick oil change before winter storage anyway.  So should I bother getting it service in December or wait until April?  The 7500 mile service is a pricey one according to Kawasaki.

Personally, I would leave it. As you've pointed out you won't be using it and therefore no warranty issues.
Only negative is technically it will no longer be FSH as service was done outside of manufacturers time stipulation.

Whenever you're ready. Most people will only care that it's done at the correct mileage intervals, not timing IMO, especially since you're only talking a few months...

:461: I only look at the mileage when buying a used bike. As long as it's been serviced within this it has a full service history IMO

Therein lies the rub, service intervals are mileage or yearly, whichever comes first. A private buyer would probably not care, but a dealer may well point out it is not FSH as the service was outwith the schedule.

A dealer will simply be trying to get a better deal for himself on trade in, but as your bargaining power goes up on more expensive bikes, the offset will likely work itself out regardless. Or just sell it privately for more money  :027:

My dealer told me to leave it until the spring as well.    Wouldn't worry about it.

Nice one guys, I think I'll leave it until the spring.  In my experience it's the mileage and the condition of the bike that matters most at trade in - also at exactly 2 years old I'll need a brake fluid change anyway, so might as well get it all done in April.  Thanks for the responses.
