Strange you should say this; it was always the recommended ( even in new owners manuals ) method of oiling chains which I have always done, then when I bought a new bike last year, the owners manual stated to use appropriate chain lube spray !!     Have you seen the price of chain lube ? lol

Is it a damped front sprocket ... ie a Kawasaki one ?
