Ride Outs
« on: January 02, 2019, 09:32:03 PM »
Hi,

What is the best place / forum / advice to join ad-hoc ride outs etc. - none of my normal social circle have a bike so end up mainly on solo rides.

I cannot be the only biking Billy no mates  :148: There must be loads more like me that on a whim see a break in the weather and want a social / ride out.

Any guidance appreciated  :828:

Know the feeling! On the plus side I have the entire motorcycle  parking area at work. To myself and park my bike parallel   :008:

I'm looking at joining the North Essex IAM group, they do a ride out every Sunday-ish

Yes, I have a mate who went the IAMS route. Just hoped that a forum like this would bring out more opportunity.

You're posting in the right place, if you suggest something in your area then hopefully others nearby will be up to joining you.

Caveat:  It is winter though so uptake at the moment maybe limited !   :190:

In defence of solo riding you go as slow or fast as you want, go out when you want, but go where you want and go home when you want. Only went with a group once. Prefer solo myself but if you crave company it's probably a good option.  :038:

You're in the right place.

Unfortunately, according to a few of the older members their used to be annual meets but they dried up.

I would suggest joining your local advanced biking group for regular ride outs, I've just joined RoSPA group and theirs a meet every month plus extras throughout the year.

There was rumblings about reinvigorating the annual meet ups, just needs someone to organise.... :164: (maybe your up for it)

Otherwise, just keep putting up details everytime you plan to ride out and you will sometimes get other local SXers out ot join you. I have been on a couple of rides with local members since joining this forum so it does happen, just got to stick at it.
I'll agree that social rides do dry up in winter though.  :190:

Alternatively, find a nice biker friendly cafe/pub local to you and go along on their 'bike nights'.

Either way, good luck and hope you get some good rides in this year!

PS look for your local Blood Biking group, another idea. gives you a whole new perspective to riding a bike!

Just joined my local RoSPA group.

They have 2 group meets a month and a ride out at the end of the month, as well as short trips away throughout the year.

Haven't even been to a meet yet (first of the year was cancelled) and I've been invited to a 5 day trip to the IOM  :062:

I have the same problem, whilst I tend to prefer solo riding, would be damn nice to have the opportunity to do/join a few group runs.

I am definitely Billy no mates when it comes to biking, that’s besides my son, who spends more time deployed than in the country..  :230:

Love to find a group/another rider for a couple runs a month.

For soloing there is another 27 to 29 days left... :745:
