Stainless and I would guess 304, not 316 which actually has better corrosive resistance, but is then more expensive!  :006:

thanks mdr,i used to use yoshimura stain magic on my old bikes downpipes,got rid of the discolouration brilliantly,then autosol to polish them,but it was a naked bike and the pipes were more on show

yeah I tried harpic,didn't seem to work as well as it did on the youtube vids,found the stain magic to be easier,less mess and kinder to surrounding parts
