Lee and I are going for a trip from Southend to Wales in a couple of weeks. Anyone live local with ideas of nice roads to ride?

Newtown to Crossgates is always a good ride, with the added benefit of a good cafe in Crossgates. You can take the A44 into Rhayader and then either mountain road through Elan Valley which is straight over at crossroads in centre of Rhayader , or turn right and up A470 to Aberystwyth. Pretty much most roads are good, well compared with Herefordshire’s potholed surfaces.
Have fun whatever

:460:   :461:  the Newtown to crossgates road is great. If you in the area then I can also recommend the B4518 from Llanidloes past Llyn Clywedog up to llanbrynmair.

Wales is a rather large area  :oh_no: with lots of good roads.  It may help if we knew your destination, e.g. SW, SE or North?

Also, there are several routes shown on the Ride website.  Always a good starting point.

Bear in mind it is holiday season and our roads can get quite busy during the day and so early starts are recommended.

Thanks for all your comments. We will being staying at bikers retreat in Dolgellau. Nigel the owner has recommended a great route to get there. A41 from the M25 onto the B4030, A44, A483 from crossgates and then the A470. He also organises a ride out when you are there and your bikes are locked away in a garage overnight for extra safety. Sounds like a top place to stay and can't wait to get started now.
